Welcome to MD EyeCare. Our daily goal is to deliver the best possible care for your eyes. Please let us know if there is anything that our staff or doctors can assist you with.
Who We Are
MD EyeCare is dedicated to providing the highest level of Eye Care, through teaching, research, volunteer service, community outreach and patient care. Our values are reflected in Compassion, Respect, Service and Dignity.
We will exemplify this commitment through academic preparation, careful listening, and a personal focus on constant improvement.
The History of Our Practice
Our ophthalmology practice traces its roots to the 1960’s, when Robert N. Dunphy, MD, joined the practice of Dalton Peele, MD in 1963. Dr. Peele served as an ophthalmologist in the U.S. Military, and had returned from service in the Korean War. Dr. Peele and Dr. Dunphy shared an office at the Santa Ana Medical Arts Building, located at 1125 East 17th street in Santa Ana. Then in 1974, Dr. Dunphy moved to an office at 1201 West La Veta Avenue, on the campus of St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, and was joined in practice by Alexander F. Dora, MD.
As both physicians retired in the mid 1990’s, the practice continued its growth under Mercer L. McClure, MD. He added George H. Garcia, MD, in 1999. Dr. Garcia has recruited outstanding associate eyecare providers to join him, and you can learn about them on our “Meet Our Doctors” page. Over these four decades, each of the physicians in the practice has carried on a long, unbroken tradition of striving to provide the highest level of eye care possible. The doctors’ eye care service, which traces its roots back to when Orange County was still more county than city, is now being continued into the modern day by the Doctors of MD EyeCare.
The Vision of Our Practice
Much of Medicine and Ophthalmology has changed since the practice was first opened forty years ago. We now have cataract surgery in less than 15 minutes, lasers that correct vision, and medications that previous generations of doctors could only dream of. But the most important part of being a doctor has not changed: the daily commitment to improving the lives of others. It means constantly learning, always being prepared, and listening carefully to our patients. It means seeing each person in terms of his or her needs, concerns, and overall well-being, and not just as a disease to fix.
Our daily goal is to deliver the very best possible care for your eyes. We have been fortunate to receive training at institutions ranked among the highest in the United States. We recognize the importance of maintaining a helpful, knowledgeable, and attentive office staff. We actively engage in ongoing education for all doctors and staff members. Our doctors believe that every eye examination must be thorough and accurate, with findings that are clearly communicated and carefully explained.
Please let us know if there is anything we can do to be of assistance and to improve your experience with our office. We appreciate the opportunity to participate in the care of your eyes, and we look forward to serving you and your eye care needs.
